"How could you do this?" shouted Water as it roused the deadly fire.
"What do you expect me to do?" whimpered the dousing Fire.
"First, you provoke me and then you blame me."
"But, look at these small kids who were here just a while ago, playing and having fun," said Water.
"So what? I don't care," said Fire.
"Don't you care for the deaths of these innocent children killed by you?" asked Water innocently.
"Don't you dare call me a killer! It is not me, but it is them," Fire said, slowly being extinguished.
"Who? Them?"
The fire then pointed to some people crying on the roadside.
"Have you gone mad? These people are in distress and pain. How can you blame them?"
"They are the ones who made me come out of my cosy room. They are the ones who came here."
In India, fires often break out in crowded places, causing immense loss of innocent lives. In 2023 alone, over 12,000 people lost their lives due to fire-related incidents across the country. Recent incidents, like the tragic fire in Rajkot's gaming zone killing 27 people, and the devastating blaze in Delhi's Vivek Vihar Children's Hospital killing at least 6 infants, highlight the recurring nature of these disasters.
The 2019 Surat coaching centre fire, which killed 22 students, and the fire at a hospital in Mumbai, which claimed the lives of 11 patients, add to the list of tragedies. Poor safety measures and delayed emergency responses often compound the tragedy. Every year, countless lives are lost to these preventable disasters, leaving behind a trail of sorrow and loss.
At this, Water started to spray itself violently over the Fire, screaming, "It is time to kill a monster like you."
The fire was extinguished until it sprang again at a children’s hospital, killing infants.
This time Water was anguished and surprised. "I had killed you. How did you come back?"
"I am immortal, but I am also not the killer," smirked Fire. "Find your killer among these humans. They kill among themselves as they are ruled by fear, jealousy, and greed. They don't see that they kill their kind. Even animals don't hunt their species."
At this, Water rose like a fountain, rising higher and higher until it met the sky. Then it fell back to the ground, swirling and dancing, consuming everything around it.
